Last of Us 2 Gets Release Date

The Last of Us 2

Earlier this week, footage and gameplay from The Last of Us 2 surfaced on Reddit revealing pivotal moments within the upcoming game; looking into the leak, I reached out to Naughty Dog for confirmation of the material. Their response confirmed that the leaked material was genuine and they discussed some of the circumstances leading to the game’s delay. The Last of Us 2 was originally scheduled to be at Pax East. However, Naughty Dog and Sony pulled out right before the event. On April 2nd, Naughty Dog announced that the game was delayed indefinitely. This week, however, Naughty Dog has given an official release date.

Prior to The Last of Us 2 receiving its official release date, rumors circulated around the net speculation why the game had been delayed. The two most believable rumors were regarding the PlayStation 5 and distribution chains. Originally, many speculated that the game was delayed because Sony wanted to release it as a launch title on the PS5. This was easy to believe since no official titles for the PS5’s release have been announced. The second rumor regarding distribution chains makes sense prior to the success of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

2 Games in Less Than a Month

With the leak spoiling key moments in the game, Naughty Dog has released an official statement. The statement asks for fans to avoid the spoilers and to look forward to the game’s official release. In Sony’s State of Play, they revealed that The Last of Us 2 will release on June 19th and Ghost of Tsushima on July 17th. This announcement could mean that both games will appear in some capacity during any future Sony reveals. At the moment, Sony has not announced any plans to replace their usual E3 press conference. This could mean that we see new information about the two games prior to their release.

Just wait

Have you managed to avoid TLOU2 spoilers? Are you excited for The Last of Us 2 and Ghost of Tsushima? Will you get the game when it launches?  Will you wait for a physical copy of the game or buy it digitally?
