Sasha Calle Will Play Supergirl in Flashpoint

Sasha Calle Will Play Supergirl in Flashpoint

Today, Deadline reported that Young and the Restless star, Sasha Calle, has joined the cast of Flashpoint. She landed the role of Supergirl after making a good impression on DC head Walter Hamada and Flashpoint director Andy Muschietti, following an impressive audition and screen test with Ezra Miller. Additionally, Grace Randolph reports that this Supergirl will come from an alternate universe. She will subsequently join Miller and Michael Keaton’s Batman in the new iteration of DCEU following the conclusion of the film. The news comes as CW’s Supergirl series will end this year after its sixth season, and 126 episodes.

A Supergirl movie scripted by Mortal Kombat writer Oren Uziel has been in development for the last couple of years. This is amid reports that Henry Cavill’s time in the cape was somewhat in question. Though there had been nothing in the way of casting at the time, and inconsistent updates about where the movie stood. This was only for the perspective feature to recede into Hollywood’s background upon renewed reports of Cavill’s potential return. As such, The news today was no doubt a pleasant surprise. The idea of having a new Supergirl show up in Flashpoint was somewhat unexpected, given how much the film already has to set up. That being said, This casting reaffirms Walter Hamada’s commitment to resetting the DCEU, and having Calle in the role helps to open the door to the wider DC multiverse.

Calle, who currently plays the role of Lola Rosales on the aforementioned CBS soap, carries on multiple legacies with this casting. Aside from picking up the torch from Helen Slater, Laura Vandervoort, and of course Melissa Benoist as the iconic Kryptonian, she also continues a storied history of actresses who have transitioned from soaps to stardom. From Demi Moore to Nathan Fillion, soaps have proven to be a great training ground for actors to hone their craft. In some cases, those play a character for multiple decades. Here’s hoping Calle does soap fans proud as she takes to the skies as Kara Zor-El when Flashpoint debuts on November 4, 2022.
