In a recent Twitter post on the official Sonic The Hedgehog movie account, a teaser has been released for the now-officially-titled Sonic The Hedgehog 2. They also announced the release date of April 8, 2022, alongside a fun hint that Tails will be featured throughout the film, something that was already surmised thanks to the post-credits scene in the first film.

The news comes on the heels of a rumor that Aquaman himself, Jason Momoa is in talks to voice knuckles in the next installment of the video game franchise.
The release of the first Sonic film was a wonderful respite for fans. Featuring the likes of X-Men’s James Marsden, The Haves and the Have Not’s Tika Sumpter, the legendary Jim Carrey and Ben Swartz as the voice of our titular character, Sonic the Hedgehog brought the iconic blue blur to our world as he battled against Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik as he tried to take over the world. What could have been another black mark on the video game movie genre quickly became one of its most celebrated. This was thanks in part to not only a willingness to listen to fans who had criticized the animation early on, but, more importantly, a fantastic story that imbued the characters with pathos and purpose. When the credits rolled, the promise of a reunion with Tails on the horizon and many adventures to come, fans everywhere couldn’t wait for the next chapter. Having Momoa join the cast as knuckles is a great boon for the sequel and hearing the DC star give life to the Chaos Emerald Guardian.
Having the April 2022 release date is a great confirmation that this franchise is rolling full steam ahead as Sonic continues to prove that there is a lot of fun to be had with a video game movie when you have the right story. I can’t wait to see where Sonic runs next.
