Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Review

Amazon

It’s been around four years since we got to spend time with Cal Kestis, BD-1, and the crew of the Mantis. Where did they end up? Well, that’s not for me to share as I want to avoid any kind of spoilers. Let’s just say, they all ended up where they fit perfectly and are surrounded by like-minded folk. But as with any good story, you can’t keep a good crew down. Now we take a look at Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

As a sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor builds on what made the original game so good. You will find smooth and rewarding combat, difficult but rewarding fights, an amazing cast of main characters and supporting characters, as well as enough scenery to keep you eager to explore every opportunity you have.

While playing Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and continuing the adventure, as Cal levels up, he gains Force Powers and abilities, allowing you to explore previously explored areas in a new way. When it comes to the sheer scope of characters and collectibles available, the game feels almost open-world in its depth and variety. But it’s not just the quantity of content that sets this game apart; it’s the quality and diversity of the combat options that make it truly exceptional.

Combat Mechanics

Unlike Fallen Order, which only featured two stances, Jedi: Survivor now offers players five distinct stances to choose from, each with its own unique advantages and drawbacks. Whether you prefer the agility and speed of the Blaster stance or the precision and power of the Single stance, there’s a combat style that will suit your playstyle and keep the action feeling fresh and exciting.

But the combat mechanics go far beyond just stance selection. As you take your time with the game and learn about its features you’ll soon need to be ready for the game’s toughest enemies and bosses. In Star Wars Jedi: Survivor you’ll need to master a range of techniques, including parrying, blocking, dodging, and attacking with precision and timing. It’s not always easy, and taking down legendary encounters can be a frustrating experience, but the satisfaction of finally toppling a challenging foe is more than worth the effort. And with so many tools and techniques at your disposal, you’ll always have a range of options for approaching any given combat scenario.

Jedi: Survivor will offer a combat experience that is deep, engaging, and endlessly rewarding. Whether you’re a die-hard Star Wars fan or simply looking for an exciting and immersive action-adventure game, this title is sure to satisfy your cravings for epic lightsaber battles and more.

Visually Stunning

It is an absolute treat for the eyes, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a stunning game that is an absolute delight to look at. As you play through the game, you will find yourself surrounded by lush landscapes, arid deserts, and bustling cities. Due to the fact that I was able to access a pre-launch build, I encountered some issues in terms of performance, but recent patches have addressed most of those issues.

In spite of this, I still experience framerate and performance issues almost two weeks after the launch on my Xbox Series X, though they are nowhere near the amounts that I experienced before the launch and within the first week after the launch. While those issues do exist, it does not take away from the enjoyment of standing still and marveling at the sights the worlds in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has to offer. The game contains a lot of detail in every part of it, which makes it so enjoyable.

Collectibles and side characters fill your time and space. Be prepared to get lost in conversation when meeting and talking with a wide variety of interesting characters. Yes, including Turgle.

Soundtrack

One of the standout features of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is its incredible music and sound design. The music throughout the game is nothing short of stunning, perfectly capturing the epic feel of the Star Wars universe. When it comes to the sound effects they’re equally impressive, from the satisfying hum of your Lightsaber to the subtle footsteps of BD-1.

The sound designers and writers have truly outdone themselves, creating an immersive experience that goes beyond just playing a game. You won’t be disappointed as you get farther into the game and get to new areas.

Verdict

Overall, if you were a fan of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, then you already are a fan of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. It takes what was great from the first game and builds upon it. Including story elements, combat, exploration, and gameplay. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor isn’t just a game, it’s a full experience and one of the most compelling Star Wars games out there right now. In spite of the fact that the prices of some AAA titles have increased in the market, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is still a worthwhile purchase.
