On July 25th, Chris and I will be participating in the Blogathon and are really excited about it.
Some of you might be wondering what the Blogathon is, and here is the answer: it’s where for an entire 24 hours, starting at 6 a.m. PST, we post a brand new blog up every 30 minutes.
Now, I am sure you guys will ask why we are doing this, and the answer is simple. It helps raise money for our charity. Just to clarify, Chris and I don’t have our own charity, although if people would want to throw money our way we certainly wouldn’t turn it down! We also don’t make one cent off of doing the Blogathon. We are donating our time to this event.
The Blogathon allowed us to choose a charity, so after some discussion, we decided to blog for “Reading Is Fundamental.” Sure we could’ve chosen other things like cancer, AIDS, poverty, world hunger, etc.. but how often do you hear about people fussing about children and reading in the news? Also, we wanted to choose a charity that devotes a majority of their donations to the cause itself, rather than padding the wallets of their CEO’s.
Reading Is Fundamental helps promote the love for reading by delivering free books and literacy resources to families and children who need it the most. RIF was founded in 1966, and is the oldest and largest children’s and family nonprofit literacy organization in the United States. Through community volunteers in every state and U.S. territory, RIF provides 4.5 million children with 16 million new, free books and literacy resources each year.
If you wish to sponsor us and help out this great cause, please go here. Great thing is that there is no minimum to donate. It can be $1.00, $1.50, $5.00… you get the picture. If you are unable to, we completely understand due to the economy being in the dumps, however we hope that you can at least help us by spreading the word about this great opportunity to provide you all with some great blogs and to help promote the importance of reading.
