Right now at the GameStop website, there are some fantastic deals going on, known as a Power Saver Sale, and let me tell you…it’s massive. In all of my years working for GameStop (2001-2005), I never saw a sale this big, so if you can, I highly suggest you take advantage of it.
One deal that caught my eye was for a Nintendo DSi/DSi XL. Purchase one of the handhelds, either version, and you get to choose a game for free. Granted they only allow you to choose from 5 DS titles (Pokémon Platinum Version, Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracker, Super Mario 64, Style Savvy, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon), but a free game is a free game, especially if you were going to buy the DSi anyways.
If you’re still looking to pick up a handheld, but prefer to get a PSP over a DSi, then you’re in luck! They have the Sony PSP 3000 Core Pack for $149.99. That’s $20.00 off retail price, and I can tell you firsthand that they rarely, if ever, discount new systems.
Several DS games are for sale, ranging from $9.99 to $24.99. Some well-known titles are Cooking Mama, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, Mario & Sonic Winter Games, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, Scribblenauts, LEGO Harry Potter Years 1-4, and Band Hero. For PSP, gamers can choose from a limited new selection, but picking up Rock Band Unplugged new for only $9.99 is a great deal.
For Xbox 360, choose from Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition, Grand Theft Auto IV, Splinter Cell Conviction, Bayonetta, Darksiders, BioShock 2, Blur, Left 4 Dead 2, Final Fantasy XIII, Mass Effect 2, and many, many more. A couple items that caught my eye were The Beatles Rock Band Bundle for $119.99, and DJ Hero with turntable for just $49.99.
On Wii, EA Sports Active has $20.00 knocked off, along with DJ Hero, Tony Hawk: RIDE, and EA Sports Active: More Workouts. There are other games to choose from as well, that aren’t a part of a bundle, like the popular Just Dance.
On PS3, popular titles like God of War 3, Bayonetta, Darksiders, Pure, 3D Dot Game Heroes, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Dark Void, Aliens vs. Predator, Demon’s Souls, Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition, Just Cause 2, Undisputed 2010, and so many more have their prices slashed.
New PC games are discounted too, like Guild Wars Online, Guild Wars Eye of the North, World of Warcraft Battlechest, World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, The Sims 3, Star Trek Online, Mass Effect 2, City of Heroes Architect Edition, and more.
As for used, prices range from a measly $0.99 to $14.99, but unfortunately nothing really stood out except for getting Ninja Gaiden 2 for just $8.49, and some choice PS2 games . I would still suggest browsing it for yourself because you might be able to get some cheap stocking stuffers for your children, or other younger members of your family, even though Christmas is months away. Accessories are on sale too, like Guitar Hero IV drums for only $44.99, and other miscellaneous things for DSi and Wii.
Moral of this story, folks? Really take advantage of this while you can. I couldn’t find anywhere on the site that said when this would be over, so if you’re looking to expand your collection, wanting some new games to play to boost your gamerscore or trophy count, or, like I mentioned earlier, needed to start thinking about Christmas stuff, then I suggest you act sooner rather than later.
Good luck!
