Today Nintendo announced what could only be another step to prepare for the 3DS launch: the DSi and DSi XL would be receiving a price drop effective September 12th.
While this might seem like boring news to some, this is actually a big deal. The DS family is the best-selling video game system in the history of the U.S. and worldwide. Having a price drop on such a popular item right before the holiday shopping season is a smart move on Nintendo’s part, and I’m sure it will payoff.
Currently the DSi XL retails for $189.99, but come September 12th, it will be dropped to $169.99. The DSi retails for $169.99, and that will also see a $20.00 drop, bringing it down to $149.99. The DS Lite will remain at $129.99, but at that price, it’s still a phenomenal deal. With these nifty discounts, we can probably expect to see some pretty nice bundles coming our way.
There are still rumors flying around of a drop in price for the Wii, and while nothing has been confirmed, it looks like we will just have to wait and see.
