Punk rock is not a financially lucrative genre, compared to more mainstream genres like pop, rock, rap, etc. This makes it hard to have a true “supergroup” collaboration, such as Them Crooked Vultures (Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters, John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin, and Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age), or Velvet Revolver (Scott Weiland from STP and the rest of the guys from the original Guns ‘N Roses, minus Axl). In so much as punk rock can have a supergroup, however, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes is a true punk rock supergroup.
Consisting of members from Swingin’ Utters, NOFX, Foo Fighters, No Use For A Name, and Lagwagon, with touring support by members of Minor Threat, Bad Religion, Face to Face, Youth Brigade, and more, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes is, exclusively, a cover band. A punk rock supergroup cover band. Their multiple albums cover varying genres of music, including country, 60s classics, contemporary R&B, pop music, show tunes, and more.
Every high school has at least one cover band. Me First and the Gimme Gimmes transcends the concept of being a cover band and turns it into something original, with great renditions of many classic songs.
