I am fairly sure someone made a deal with the Devil here. Ghost Rider 2. Its happening. With an even lower budget. I think I hate Satan.
Now I like Nick Cage. He’s a genuinely interesting actor who does his best to bring the weird out in the characters he creates. He’s also an avid comic book fan. His last name isn’t actually his last name. Its taken from Marvel character Luke Cage. And Ghost Rider has been a pet project of his for years. But man…Nick, sometimes it just doesn’t work out. Like Superman. Remember Superman? Yeah you do. The first Ghost Rider movie wasn’t as bad as that Superman would have been, but it did have some severe flaws. Hell, I could have taken those demons. And your Johnny Blaze was just…weird. Like I said before, I like weird. But this weird just didn’t work. Also, before I forget, the CGI was pretty bad. Sorry guy.
So it is with some incredulity that I am reporting the green lighting of a Ghost Rider sequel. According to TheWrap Ghost Rider 2 is going ahead with Hyde Park Entertainment co-financing the movie. Sony, it seems, is busy putting most of their money into making other things like Spider-Man and Men in Black III and…wait, did I just say Men in Black III? No, focus, one WTF at a time…
Perhaps most distressing about this whole thing is that the budget is getting slashed big time. Reportedly the budget has been trimmed from $135 million to $75 million. Actually, that’s not even a trim. That’s like the scene in Dawn of the Dead where a zombie walks into a spinning helicopter blade. Either way, man oh man can I not wait to see how horrible the CGI can get with less of a budget than the first one.
Ghost Rider 2 stars Nick Cage, Idris Elba, Ciaran Hinds and Placido Violante. It is written David Goyer and will be directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor. It is being produced by Mike deLuca, Avi Arad and Ashok Armitraj. It will hopefully be watched by myself, who really wants to remain positive but has a very hard time staying so. Maybe a nice cup of jellybeans will help brighten my mood.
