New movie apparently titled Uncharted: Feel the Vibration. Not really, but I thought that was funny.
The Uncharted games for the PS3 are awesome. This is an indisputable fact. You cannot argue it. They are one of the big reasons to buy a PS3. The combination of top notch action and a fantastic story and characters who are likable and snarky and charming just makes these games a joy to play. So now comes word that yes, an Uncharted movie is indeed happening. And in the title role of the dashing, handsome, charming, dangerous and completely snarky Nathan Drake is none other than… Markey Mark. Mark Wahlberg. Huh…
Wahlberg will be starring in the movie directed by Three Kings and The Fighter helmer David O. Russell. “David is one of the best writer/directors I’ve ever worked with,” said Wahlberg to MTV’s Multiplayer blog.“The idea that he has is just insane. So hopefully we’ll be making that movie this summer.” Wahlberg later goes on to say that Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci are being courted to play parts in the movie. “That’s who he wants to write the parts for. I talked to Pesci about it and I know David’s people have talked to [Robert De Niro].” And who will they play? As Wahlberg says, “I’m obviously in whatever David wants to do but the idea of it is so off the charts: De Niro being my father, Pesci being my uncle. It’s not going to be the watered-down version, that’s for sure.”
Father? Uncle? Where’s Sully, the lovable cigar chomping sidekick who looks like Tom Selleck crossed with Harrison Ford? The older sidekick guy is already taken! I dunno guys. I’m apprehensive of this. Video game movies have a… yeah, a bad reputation. And Mark Wahlberg did just come off of Max Payne, which was… again, yeah. The Uncharted games are some of my favorites, maybe my favorite series of this generation even. So, I’m rather protective of this series. Hopefully, when production starts up, I’ll start seeing some things that will ease my fears. As of right now, I’m in wait and see mode.
