The star of Showtime’s The Tudors is set to star in the reboot of the Superman movie series.
Well, that took forever. Since 2006 there have been casting wars, fan speculation and damn near bloodshed over who will take over the mantle of the world’s most famous superhero, Superman. But now we finally have an answer. Henry Cavill will don the blue and red spandex of the last son of Krypton in the Zack Snyder directed, Christopher Nolan produced Superman reboot movie. This is pretty surprising news considering Cavill’s past history with being, “Almost…” He was almost Superman during the previous development Hell of Superman production before the movie eventually morphed into 2006’s Superman Returns. He was almost Batman in Christopher Nolan’s movies. He was almost the new James Bond before Daniel Craig landed the part. And one of the big complaints that seemed to circle Cavill was that he looked too young. Well, I guess time heals all wounds, as he has boomeranged back to Superman after gaining a few years. So… karma, I guess? I dunno. The really cool thing about this is that, like Christian Bale before him, there was a huge swelling of fan support for Cavill to take on the role of the big blue boyscout. So go fans. You got what you wanted. This guy is the new Superman.
Oh, and here is a quote from Zack Snyder about the casting:
“In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen. I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield.”
Superman, or whatever it will actually be named by the time it comes out, directed by Zack Snyder, produced by Christoper Nolan, written by David Goyer and starring Henry Cavill, will be out sometime in 2012.
