It has been two weeks since Kyle reported on the mind-blowing trailer that made your heart race and all your friends abuzz. So, with the internet community talking about Dead Island, what is the current status of its movie rights?
Although the trailer didn’t show any gameplay, it sent social networks and websites across the internet crazy with whispers of how great a movie Dead Island would make. With so many viewers pleased with what they saw on the small screen, when can we expect, if at all, to see Dead Island on the big screen?
Well, sadly, I’ll have to break the news to you: Deep Silver, publisher of Dead Island, has not sold the film adaptation rights to the game.
Yet.
Since Dead Island’s release trailer, many studios have expressed interest in purchasing the film adaptation rights, but Deep Silver is not willing to cash in on the big bucks just yet… “We are looking for quality above all else for a movie based on Dead Island. We want to do it the right way as film realizations of games (or vice versa) usually fail to deliver what the fans were looking for. We will not go down this route with Dead Island. Deep Silver profoundly believes in the quality and value of its Dead Island IP,” says Klemens Kundratitz, CEO of Deep Silver’s parent company Koch Media. “We would therefore be honored to work with someone who already has a proven track record with blockbuster movies.”
I think it’s safe to say there will be a Dead Island movie in the future, however, I doubt it’ll be anytime soon! Let’s just hope it meets, and even surpasses, all the hype the debut trailer created!
What are you guys’ thoughts? Are you excited to see a Dead Island movie?
