Brace yourselves anime fans, for Tite Kubo’s Bleach is coming to the PS3 with Bleach: Soul Resurreccion.
Bleach is the story of Ichigo Kurosaki, a teenager who has the unique ability to see and speak to ghosts. One day, he meets a Soul Reaper named Rukia Kuchiki. Soul Reapers have two jobs: to shepherd the souls of the dead to the afterlife known as Soul Society, and to destroy demonic monsters called Hollows. When a Hollow attacks them and Ichigo’s family, the injured Rukia transfers her Soul Reaper powers to the abnormally spiritually-strong Ichigo, making him a substitute Soul Reaper. From there, Ichigo’s life only gets stranger as he and his friends are pulled further into the battles of the afterlife.
Bleach has aired a little over 200 episodes in the US and is jam-packed with tons of characters who all have their appeal. Its anime and manga are both available from VIZ media, and can be viewed Saturday nights on Adult Swim. The game seems to be an action/adventure game in the vein of Ninja Gaiden, with players taking Ichigo and his friends through the various story arcs and battles that comprise the series from its inception to the Hueco Mundo arc and its battles with the Arrancars (Hollows who have attained human-like forms and incredible powers). Early footage has shown that tons of characters are available to play as, and the action looks as fast and furious as the series.
Those of you who can’t wait to bust out your Bankai (fans will get it), Bleach: Soul Resurreccion will be out August 2nd, 2011. I personally can’t wait. And if enough people want it, I will do a Bleach primer prior to the game’s release.
