One of the things I was happy about when hearing that Disney bought Marvel was the massive media empire that some of my favorite superheroes were now part of. And since DC has a monopoly on Cartoon Network (due to being owned by the same company, Warner Bros.), I was waiting for some new blood to appear on Disney’s major channel Disney XD. With this new press release, Marvel is planning to expand the adventures of their upcoming animated series with tie-in comics, and I couldn’t be more excited.
From the press release:
This April, Marvel is pleased to announce the launch of The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes Adventures #1 andUltimate Spider-Man Adventures #1, two all-new ongoing comic book titles for comic fans of all-ages! These titles connect with TV’s highly anticipated animation destination, Marvel Universe on Disney XD, debuting Sunday, April 1, the only place to catch Ultimate Spider-Man and season two of The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. With two action-packed animated series and compelling comics, fans will have the chance to further immerse themselves in the adventures of Spider-Man, Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and the rest of the Avengers – including special guest stars!
“I couldn’t be more excited for Marvel Universe,” said Marvel Editor In Chief, Axel Alonso. “There is something special about The Avengers and Spider-Man that speaks to fans of all ages, and with the launch of Marvel Universe on Disney XD this April, what better way to connect the two experiences than these new ongoing series?”
In The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes Adventures #1, the creative team of Chris Yost and Adam Dekraker, present not one, but TWO new action-packed Avengers stories to catch you up on the adventures of Earth’s Mightiest through the eyes of Agent Coulson.
Then in Ultimate Spider-Man Adventures #1, from Man Of Action (Ben 10), Dan Slott, Ty Templeton & Nuno Plati, Peter Parker must balance battling Super Villains and the drama of High School! But fear not True Believer, there is no menace too diabolical and no test too challenging for Spider-Man!
No fan of the Avengers or Spider-Man can miss out on these new action-packed series, sure to excite fans of all ages! So make sure you’re the first one in line this Spring to catch The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes Adventures #1 and Ultimate Spider-Man Adventures #1 as the heroes make their big TV debut!
I’m looking forward to both of these books and the shows they’re based on for two reasons.
1) Avengers: Earth Mightiest Heroes has so far been the best animated depiction of the Avengers I’ve seen. After watching the entire first season, my fondest hope is that the live-action film coming this summer takes a hint from this show on how to handle the character dynamics and epic scale of the plots. And from what I’ve seen of Ultimate Spider-Man at this early stage, it seems like a fresh and original take on my favorite Marvel hero.
2) The talent on both books. Writers like Dan Slott (current writer on The Amazing Spider-Man) and Chris Yost (creative force behind a lot of Marvel’s animated films projects), artists/writers like Ty Templeton (the comic adaptions of Batman the animated series and Batman Beyond), and the sheer creative energy that the group Man of Action (The entire Ben 10 and Generator Rex phenomena) puts out… these are not slouches in the medium of visual storytelling.
I’ll check back with you guys as the stories develop.
