NeverDead turns one week old today, and DLC is on the way. The title, which has been receiving a large number of very negative reviews, to my confusion and consternation, is moving forward with the additional content, set to reach consoles on February 21st. Expansion Pack Volume 1, as it’s being called, seems to be a bit short of the content I would expect out of something referred to as an “expansion pack,” but a rose by any other name, and all that jazz. So, what exactly does NeverDead’s first expansion/DLC bring to players?
Multiplayer is the focus of this first content disbursement. Nikki Summerfield, the whiny pop idol that serves as a sharp contrast to Bryce’s cynicism, becomes available for online challenges as a playable character. While on the topic of characters, Bryce also comes across two new costume variants for challenges. While on the topic of challenges (see what I did there?), three new gameplay challenges become available in the expanded Asylum level: Egg Hunt, Fragile Alliance, and Onslaught.
- Egg Hunt: Scour the expanded Asylum level for collectibles and score points by delivering them to designated “Score Zones.” Sounds like an episode of American Gladiators.
- Fragile Alliance: A competitive race through a number of checkpoints. You can interrupt other players’ progress by attacking each other. Sounds like Road Rash II but on feet.
- Onslaught: Go through the full Asylum level section by section fighting waves of enemies.
