Ubisoft has easily been one of my favorite developers over the last couple of years. They have been consistently strong with their major releases, if you exclude their shovelware titles, and have shown fantastic support for new hardware launches. Their PS Vita launch support included some absolute hits, along with a dud or two. Regardless, Ubisoft committed to five launch titles for the PS Vita mobile platform, and have upped the stakes for the Wii U launch. Through the first half of 2013 (unsure if fiscal or calendar 2013), Ubisoft will support the Wii U’s launch window with 8 titles.
From Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft:
Ubisoft is a trailblazer in developing innovative, unique content for new platforms and we’re continuing that tradition with our Wii U titles. Ubisoft’s creative teams have taken advantage of the technological advances in the Wii U system to develop new gameplay concepts that will help set the new system apart from other consoles and deliver distinct, immersive gaming experiences for players.
Ubisoft’s support of the Wii U includes both exclusive and multi-platform titles:
- Assassin’s Creed III – One of Ubisoft’s flagship series, Assassin’s Creed’s newest outing will be a strong title for the Wii U in Nintendo’s attempt to reinvigorate its ailing fanbase.
- Just Dance 4 – Last year’s Just Dance 3 broke records for Ubisoft, and was the first of the series to be available across multiple platforms. Just Dance 4 will also be available across multiple platforms, with some Wii U exclusive modes and functionality.
- Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth – Based on Marvel’s “Secret Invasion” storyline, Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth pits you against the forces of evil as you attempt to save the world.
- Rabbids Land – Jealous of Rayman’s attempt to retake the spotlight from the secondary characters of old, the Rabbids are returning in Rabbids Land.
- Rayman Legends – Hot on the heels of the critical darling, Rayman Origins, comes Rayman Legends. There has been no word of this title being available on other platforms as of yet, so for now we’re assuming it’s an exclusive adventure for the Wii U. This is the game that makes me want a Wii U.
- Sports Connection – Like Wii Sports, and other sports titles that came after it, Sports Connection will bring multiple sports to the Wii U, including American football, soccer, and kart racing.
- Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2013 – Your Shape 2013 brings over 125 different workouts and 215 exercise moves to the successor of the hardware that started the video game fitness craze.
- ZombiU – It’s 2012, London. An outbreak has occurred, and you are tasked with survival. I’d have called it Zombwii U, but hey, I guess it was simply not to be.
