Review: Aria The Scarlet Ammo (Anime)

Review: Aria The Scarlet Ammo (Anime)

Lately I’ve been on a huge kick of watching anime that ranges from being dark to ones that will make you laugh or even sad. Heck last night I was watching a series and became sad once I realized a main character got sick and died. I know it’s a bit sad to hear about that but I wasn’t expecting a character from the first season to die a slow death in the second part. Anyways, with my huge kick going on of watching the latest anime I’ve finished the series Aria The Scarlet Ammo published by FUNimation.

When I think about the series Aria The Scarlet Ammo I have a smile on my face. A lot of good things were done with this title and I’ll state right now that if down the road I’d pick an anime to watch again this would be one. Why? Well you’ll find out in this review what I liked and disliked about this title. All you need to know is bad ass battles, girls, and saving the world one bullet at a time.

Aria The Scarlet Ammo is a series about a young boy named Kinji Toyama, a student at Tokyo Butei High. What’s different about this school? That’s what you’re about to find out! At this school students still study what is usually taught at schools, but they also undertake a special training to learn the path of the Butei. What is a Butei, you ask? A Butei is a person who has the permission to arm themselves and capture criminals throughout the world. Sadly there is no school like that in real life. Just think how odd it would be learning that a school teaches such a think. Plus why does Tokyo have such a school like that in this series? Well it’s due to the worsening in crime throughout the world. Many groups tend to hire these kids to deal with the crimes going on. Anyways, one day Kinji is pretty much at his breaking point and has finally lost what it takes to become a Butei. Maybe he’ll quit? On his trip to school he gets a call from an unknown source that his bike has been rigged with a bomb under his seat and is told if he slows down or tries to get away it’ll explode. Would you stop? This is when the series will start to become much better as you meet Aria Kanzaki. Who’s she? She’s just a new student that is going to the school with Kinji and from the moment the meet his life will change.

When I started on the series Aria The Scarlet Ammo I was very interested on how the series progressed. Just from seeing the box art you can tell that it’s going to be one hell of a ride. Honestly, you can look at quite a few box arts and simply tell that a series is going to have a lot of action. No, I’m not talking about that action perv…I’m talking about explosions, gun battles or fights. At times you might even see girls fighting but you never know what you’ll be seeing as you watch a series. The story hits a lot of key points and keeps viewers such as myself glued to the TV. I couldn’t help but wonder what will happen next, who’s the Butei killer, and was happy to find a series that taught you  more about the main characters. Lately in some series I’ve watched it gets straight to the point rather than learning more about each character. Maybe they’ve had a rough life or have reasons they do. Aria The Scarlet Ammo makes sure to teach you more about Kinji, Aria, and other characters you’ll meet in this series. It’s always going to a be a big plus if I know more about the characters rather than going right into the craziness that’s going on.

The acting in Aria The Scarlet Ammo is by far the best I’ve seen lately. Why? I’ve said in many past reviews I keep an eye on lip movement and that everything matches up. The team doing the audio made sure to hit every key mark with each character you meet in the series. What do I mean by that? It’s simple as saying the voices went along with the lip movement. What about the actors? The emotions for each character hit the marks needed whether they were happy, sad, pissed off or in Kinji’s case a different mood all together due to his ability. What is the ability? You’ll need to watch the series… What about the music throughout the series? I’ve said many times before that music can improve an anime or TV show by simply setting the mood. The musical scores hit those marks when it was the correct times to play the music. I do enjoy the opening to the series but when you’re watching the series you’ll be sure to notice the scores.

Overall, I’d say this is a must by series if you’re a fan of action. Why? From the moment you start you’ll be greeted with a lot action, suspense, and quite a few laughs. Aria The Scarlet Ammo has made sure to hit many key points such as the acting and emotions, the look of the series, the music and simply having a very detailed story. If I could change a few things I’d want the series to be much longer due to some unanswered questions. Hopefully one day this will happen but in the mean time you’ll be happy that you watched a series such as Aria The Scarlet Ammo. Is this series worth buying? Yes! Will you be happy of the purchase? Yes!
