We all know the game. Y’know, the one with the excessive gore and the chainsaw gun. Yeah, that one. As some of you may know, Gears of War will be getting the remaster treatment on the Xbox One with Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. Not only is it the bloody game we all know and love, but it is being improved with next-gen graphics, redone cinematics, new maps, early access to the Gears of War 4 multiplayer beta, new Achievements, improved haptic feedback and an additional difficulty level. (Unfortunately, I do not believe the “train sequence” will be explained in more detail.) So yeah, that is a thing that is happening.
But wait, there’s more.
Today it was announced that if you purchase the game, and play it between August 25th and December 31st 2015, you will be treated with a special backwards compatible gift. No, you won’t be getting Gears of War 1. Instead, you will walk away with GoW 1, 2, 3, and Judgment. For free. Yeah. Take that Billy Mays. Microsoft knows what’s up. Of course, these will just be the backwards compatible ports (no new achievements, no updated graphics), but it is solidifying a trend that I am thrilled Microsoft is doing. “Oh, you bought this new game that has ties to an older game on the 360? Here, just have the one you love for free on this console so you don’t have to bounce back and forth.”
So yeah. For $40, you get GoW Ultimate Edition, access to the Gears 4 Beta, plus access to all four last generation iterations of the series. Talk about a bargain!
Okay, you greedy little things. You want more? How about this: If you are a part of the preview program, you can access the original Gears of War through backwards compatibility……wait for it…………………………………….. NOW!
So what are you waiting for? Stop reading this and go chainsaw some people to death. I promise, it is a ton of fun.
