As of July 11, searches on Pornhub containing the word “Pokemon” rose 136% after the release of Pokemon GO. Because of this spike in searches Pornhub set out to discover what demographics of trainers were searching for Pokemon on Pornhub.
Nintendo’s mobile version of Pokemon, Pokemon GO, released on July 6th in North America and Australia, but this did not stop trainers from around the world from downloading Pokemon Go through an APK file. After its release, Pokemon Go became the number one download in the Apple store, surpassing Twitter in daily usage amount as well.
During Pornhub’s investigation, they discovered that from the 136% increase, men are 62% more likely to search for Pokemon than women, and the Pokemon Porn search is 336% more popular among 18-24-year-olds when compared to all other age groups; coming in second was the 25 to 34 year olds, who were 47% less likely to search for Pokemon on Pornhub, which is still an astounding 289%.Pornhub also discovered that a majority of the users who were searching for Pokemon porn had previously searched for Minecraft videos.
Android users were 51% more likely to search for Pokémon on Pornhub compared to iOS users. The Statistics Pornhub used came from Google Analytics which uses ‘affinities’ which determines a users’ likely interests based on their Google search history and web browsing habits. By using this affinity data, Porn hub was able to discover what type of gaming fans were most likely to search for Pokemon on Pornhub. From this data Pornhub was able to determine that adventure and strategy, role-playing and action gaming fans were among the most likely to search for Pokemon on Pornhub when it came time to release some tension.
Although Pokemon Go was only released in the United States and Australia on July 6, Pornhub was curious to see what countries were the most interested in Pokemon searches. From Google Analytics Pornhub was able to determine that most of the top 20 countries that searched for Pokemon On Pornhub were in Central and South America with Bolivia, Peru and Chile in the lead. Brazil ranks 11th for Pokemon searches; Pornhub discovered that during the last year alone Pokemon searches in Brazil had grown 157%.
These statistics come as no surprise. As the 80’s and 90’s generation grew older, they still held on to the nostalgia they got from the Pokemon franchise but they also discovered that some of the characters could become sexualized; it is not uncommon for there to be porn based off of popular video games, anime, and movies.
