It has almost been a year since Rock Band 4 came out, and in that time there have been ups and downs. Good DLC with “bad DLC,” alright sales, splitting from MadCatz, but getting PDP Gaming on board. It’s been a busy year for Harmonix, including monthly updates. However, that was in the past. Now we look forward towards Rock Band Rivals: the first expansion pack for the title.
Able to be purchased with instruments and the main game, or as a digital upgrade, Rock Band Rivals is aiming to raise the bar. Of course there will be many new venues and Rock Shop items to purchase, but the main appeal of this expansion is the new game modes.
The first new mode is appropriately named Rivals mode. Here, you will create a crew of up to ten rock stars to rock against other crews around the world. In a challenge, you will be faced with unique gameplay challenges. It would appear that it will be a weekly event where it could change each week. As of right now, that is all that has been announced, with more to come during PAX West later in September.
The second mode is called Rockudrama. It appears that it will be a more in depth campaign mode that will combine Live-action video, in-engine footage and gameplay. That’s right, it is a playable music documentary. Play through as your band and watch their rise, and fall, and rise again. The more you play, the more you unlock! Check out the Rockudrama trailer below.
Also, if you preorder Rivals, you will get 10 Bonus Songs that will be released after (That is $20 saved right there.) and they are actually decent songs that I am looking forward to. They are:
- Bring Me The Horizon – “Happy Song”
- Capital Cities – “Safe and Sound”
- Eagle-Eye Cherry – “Save Tonight”
- The Neighbourhood – “Sweater Weather”
- Of Monsters and Men – “Little Talks”
- Pharrell Williams – “Happy”
- Semisonic – “Closing Time”
- Sia – “Chandelier”
- Skillet – “Feel Invincible”
- Weezer – “King of the World”
If you pre-order from Amazon, you will also get:
- Matchbox Twenty – “3AM”
- Maroon Five – “One More Night”
Rock Band Rivals will be available later this Fall, and is available for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 for $29.99 as a digital download, $199 bundled with the new Jaguar Guitar and mic/drums, or $89.99 bundled with the guitar and a coupon for a free microphone. Be sure to stay tuned for more information! Will you be getting Rivals, or are you passing?
