“Let’s see, what should I play first? Too long, too short, too weird, no wait, there’s no such thing in my library. Okay, A Wild Catgirl Appears it is then!”
Such was basically my selection process for choosing a game in Sprint #1. Quick enough that I could finish in the limited time I had, and a little bit weird.
I wasn’t disappointed. A Wild Catgirl Appears (AWCA) is a Yuri visual novel about a student in a all-girls school, and her various romantic choices. I won’t spoil the twist, but it’s hardly a surprise to say that there’s a cat girl who appears by mysterious magic, since that’s in the title.
The pre-rendered cinematics and backgrounds are well done, and there’s some fairly clever parody names of actual games and systems. How Long To Beat put the time to finish one storyline at around an hour, and I came pretty close to that. Another hour got me to 100% with all storylines viewed and all achievements completed.
My biggest complaint is that there’s no gallery. Better be fast with that screenshot key if you want to save a picture for later, because unlike most VNs, once it’s gone, it’s gone.
Overall, the story was decent, and the game didn’t overstay its welcome, unlike a few other VNs I’ve played through. If you have AWCA buried in your backlog, it’s worth the couple of hour investment to put played on it.
(Rating: 7/10)
From Sprint Zero, I had set two goals for Sprint One. AWCA completed closed out Goal One. I didn’t do so hot on Goal Two, which was to get my game collection fully logged on HLTB. While I did get most of my console games logged, the big book of PC games has yet to be done. As such, current stats are a bit of a guess.
Sprint 1 Goals:
- Finish a game. I’m going to go for something different this time, a classic that I’ve never played: Another World, 20th Anniversary Edition.
- Finish adding my backlog to HLTB.
Previous Sprint Goals:
- Finish a game. Status = DONE!
- Add backlog to HLTB. Status = Incomplete
Current Backlog: 1,099 games (approximately)
