Thunder Lotus Games released Jotun almost exactly one year ago, and its hand-drawn animation, bad-ass female Viking protagonist, and deep attention to Norse mythology gained them a solid fan base from the Kickstarter to the current Valhalla Edition.
Now they’re back with the highly-anticipated sophomore effort, entitled Sundered. This announcement comes just before TwitchCon 2016, where thousands of members of the gaming community (consumer and producer) come together to disperse ideas and geek out. A playable demo of Sundered will be available during the event, which is happening from September 30 to October 2 in San Diego, CA.
Sundered follows Eshe, a “a wanderer in a ruined world,” as she fights her way through caverns filled with Eldritch horrors. As she uses ancient relics to defeat bosses, she sacrifices her humanity. Whether to make this sacrifice is up to the player, however, with the rewards for their decisions coming through multiple endings.
Thunder Lotus has again chosen to hand-draw the game’s animations, creating a dynamic visual experience for the visceral experiences the player will face. Horrors both organic and robotic surround the player, creating a need for clever maneuvers through a procedural world where no two playthroughs are the same, and strategies must be adapted on the fly.
New abilities are unlocked that can be used in either combat or exploration – corrupting these abilities (to make them stronger) may cost Eshe her sanity. “Resist or Embrace” – Sundered asks you to choose.
Sundered will be available in 2017. Stay tuned for more, including interviews with Thunder Lotus Games, right here at Marooners’ Rock.
