Fun fact: did you know that there was a Mario Graphic Novel? There was, and it was called SUPER MARIO ADVENTURES. It originally appeared in twelve installments of Nintendo Power in 1992, from January to December. While it wasn’t exactly a retelling of any of the games, it was loosely based on Super Mario World, where many of the characters and enemies were similar, featuring Mario, Luigi, Toadstool, Yoshi, Toad, Bowser, and the Koopalings! Well I have some crazy news: Viz Media has announced today that they are bringing it back! Sortof!
Flash forward twenty four years to today. Viz Media announced that they will be bringing the series back as a complete graphic novel release. The print will be full color, remastered, and available for a low price of $14.99 for all 12 issues in one collection. It is being released on October 11th of this year in multiple retailers. Get ready to join the most well known gaming duo as they try to rescue the princess from the clutches of the Koopa King and the Koopalings. While it was slightly before my time, I do love me some graphic novels so this is a must buy!
“This fantastic new edition will delight legions of video game, pop culture and comic fans with imaginative adventures inspired by Mario and Luigi from the classic Super Mario Bros. games,” says Beth Kawasaki, Senior Editorial Director for VIZ Media. “Join the fun as gaming’s most legendary pair of brothers attempt to rescue Princess Peach from the clutches of the Koopa King!”
Fans in New York can join in the celebration by attending the Launch Party at Nintendo NY, located in Rockefeller Center on Friday, October 7th from 6PM-8PM.
