Back when Dark Souls 3 released it completely rooted itself into my very being. I was constantly thinking throughout my daily routine of different ways to approach bosses or shaking with delight at the possibility of new things to discover. Dark Souls 3 also has a ton of ridiculously tense moments, better than most horror games, that had me reeling through most of the playthrough. I never did finish Dark Souls 3, only getting as far as killing the Dancer of the Boreal Valley, but I always wanted to go back. Now, I have an amazing reason to do as the new expansion Ashes of Ariandel is coming on October 25th.
Visually, this new area of Dark Souls seems to be pulling a lot inspiration from the winter themed Game of Thrones, as a lot of games have here of late. The dead of winter has always been a great setting for unsettling experiences, of which Dark Souls loves to build upon. Of course, there will be some new enemies to figure out, as well as a few new bosses. Some of the bosses shown in the trailer are either re-skins of ones already found in Dark Souls 3 or just use a similar animation set. New weapons and armor are also a given, as any good expansion should have.
Surprisingly, the most interesting bit of information for some players will be that Ashes of Ariandel will have some sort of dedicated area to PVP. Those who know of Dark Souls‘ addictive combat mechanics, will also know that trying to find an exact sparring partner is sometimes a pain, so this new arena or arena-equivalent could be a major addition for fans of that side of the game.
Ashes of Ariandel, again, will be available October 25th on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The DLC by itself will cost $14.99, while the season pass is still $24.99. A second DLC is still slated to be released early 2017. Of course, more details will be readily available when Ashes of Ariandel launches, but until then, maybe its time to set course to finish what I started what seems like long ago.
