Yes, the retro gaming scene continues to define the modern world of games! Double Dragon IV is coming to PS4 on January 29th and Steam on January 30th after a surprise announcement by Arc System Works. The story picks up from the end of Double Dragon II, which had Billy and Jimmy taking out the Black Warriors.
Some of the developers of the original arcade beat-em up classic have been working on this new title. Credentials include creator Yoshihisa Kishimoto, designer Koji Ogata and composer Kazunaka Yamane. Double Dragon IV features a classic graphical and musical style, as well as sporting two player couch co-op. The game is said to be releasing for about seven bucks, at least if the yen conversion is correct for all regions. No official North American price has been set as of yet.
Other than the trailer and what little information has been spread by the developers, little else is known about Double Dragon IV. Really, there’s not much more to say. It’s Double Freakin’ Dragon! Grab a buddy and punch some dudes for a good retro-inspired time! Simple as that.
Hopefully, after the initial digital releases there will be some sort of physical release. Maybe a company like Indie Box or Limited Run Games could get in on that. Either way, this is a game deserving the attention of retro gamers, as well as those looking to have some solid co-op fun.
We’ll definitely be checking out Double Dragon IV when the game officially launches at the end of January.
