At the end of 2016 I found myself, along with over 6 million others, actually able to update my gaming setup with a PS4. So as a new PS4 owner I finally have my eye on what’s to come for the system. The system has plenty of games that I am especially stoked for. Here are my Top 10 Most Anticipated PS4 games as of January 2017!
1. Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 HD Remix
Kindom Hearts 1 and 2 are a couple of my favorite games of all time. The combination of Disney and Final Fantasy is an odd one, but it works, even when the story goes off the deep end. Though I had intended to get the Kingdom Hearts HD games for PS3, it just simply didn’t happen. Then I saw that Square Enix was going to release both collections for PS4 on a single disc, which was very exciting. Get ready to replay these games on PS4 come the end of March 2017! I can’t think of a better way to prepare for the next entry.
2. Kingdom Hearts 3
Yes! Yes! Yes! It’s finally coming! Kingdom Hearts 3 is expected in 2017. After seeing a number of hit and miss side games over the years, a main entry to the series is overdue. I can’t wait to continue the adventures of Sora, Donald, and Goofy and the story they left hanging for 10 years. Hopefully there won’t be anymore delays and the game stays in it’s current 2017 slot.
3. Resident Evil 7 Biohazard
This one surprised me, but for the first time in quite awhile I’m genuinely excited for a Resident Evil game. In the wake of the cancelled Silent Hills, it looks like Capcom is ready to fill the gap. Good news is the wait isn’t long on this one. Can’t wait to need new shorts come January 24th!
4. Double Dragon IV
I’ve always been a fan of brawlers, which is probably my favorite genre to play with others. Though I’m not super familiar with the series, I am pumped to grab a buddy and play a new brawler on my new system. To celebrate the series’ 30 year anniversary, the developers also kept that classic retro look. On January 30th, put em up and go right!
5. God of War
The story of Kratos continues on the PS4! This time it looks like a few years have passed and Kratos has calmed down a bit. Enough at least for him to return to the family life and to grow an epic beard. We don’t know what’s going to happen, but we do know is that it’s going to look great on the PS4!
6. Ni No Kuni II – Revenant Kingdom
The first Ni No Kuni might just be one of the most beautiful games I’ve ever played. With Studio Ghibli involved, it isn’t all that surprising. This time looks to also impress, though it doesn’t look like Studio Ghibli will be lending it’s hand. We will see what difference it will make when it comes out later this year! Can’t wait to be entranced once again.
7. Horizon Zero Dawn
Horizon Zero Dawn really caught my eye when it was announced at E3 2016. Taking down giant mech monsters sounds like a cool idea. However it’s done with a bow and arrow?! Woah. This strange blend of past meets future has me ready to step into this mashup of themes on February 28th.
8. Final Fantasy XII – The Zodiac Age
This is my second favorite Final Fantasy game, just barely under Final Fantasy IX. Being familiar with the world already from Final Fantasy Tactics and playing through a sprawling political epic of betrayal and war, this game pulled me in. I recently found myself wanting an HD remaster of this game and to find out it’s happening shortly after getting my PS4 is awesome. I’m looking forward to revisiting the world of Ivalice and following the adventures of some of my favorite JRPG characters, Balthier, Ashe, and Basch. Hopefully it makes the current release date of “by the end of 2017”.
9. Nioh
It’s been quite awhile since I’ve played a Samurai centric game. This game reminded me of all of the PS2 Samurai based games (Onimusha, Way of the Samurai, Dynasty Warriors) and then takes it up a notch in intensity and grittiness. I’m looking forward to the variety of weapons and crazy looking boss battles when the game comes out on February 2nd.
10. For Honor
I’ve been excited for this game for awhile, and now that I have a PS4, this is the way I think I’d want to play this game. Knights vs Vikings vs Samurai sounds like it’s going to be a clash of the ages. Three iconic warriors from history going against one another will keep my PS4 busy, that’s for sure! Looking forward to learning the meaning of “all is fair in love and war” on February 14th!
