Let’s play a game. I’m going to say a word you and think of something that correlates with it. Ready? Okay: Harmonix. If you the first thing you thought of was a video game, great job. That’s what I was going for, however they are branching out later this year. They are taking a risk with their upcoming AR(?) card game, Dropmix.
I’ll put it as simple as possible, it is a “fast paced music mixing game.” Being released by Hasbro, Inc. this is the first title of its kind. The game board will connect to your smartphone. The cards you play are related to a song, more specifically a specific track from said song. As you play the cards back and forth, the song pieces will collide into one big masterpiece, letting you be a master DJ on the fly. Some major hits coming to the card game include: “Take Over Control” by Afrojack (ft. Eva Simons), “24K Magic” by Bruno Mars, “Closer” by The Chainsmokers” (ft. Halsey), “Sing” by Ed Sheeran, “Centuries” by Fall Out Boy, “I Want You Back” by The Jackson 5, “All About That Bass” by Meghan Trainor, “House Party” by Sam Hunt and many more.
Not much is known about the game yet, but we do have a price and timeline. The DROPMIX Music Gaming System is set to release in September of this year, with the price of $99.99. This package has the electronic board as well as 60 DROPMIX Cards. Playlist Packs will add 16 new cards to your collection, and they will run you $14.99. Finally Discover Packs (five card expansions) will be available for $4.99. Harmonix and Hasbro estimate 300 total available cards will be released in 2017, leading to millions of combinations.
