Readers may remember our hands-on coverage of Lightspeed Frontier from the PAX South show floor at the end of January. What we saw was a promising game of open world space exploration with a unique twist on shipbuilding, and the promise of a variety of single player missions.
Arriving on Steam Early Access today (March 7th), Lightspeed Frontier offers a twist on ship-building gameplay by allowing you to completely customize your spacecraft with a series of snap-on components, much like a Lego creation. Need more firepower? Add some mini-guns. Pirates chewing through your glass cannon? Add some bigger shields. Your ship can be exactly as big or small as you need it to be.
The missions in the expansive universe have lasting effects, both for the environment and the galactic stock market. Players can choose their own pathways, taking on pirates and criminal scum of the galaxy, or seeking riches through commodity trading and canny attention to the ups and downs of the economy.
Marooners’ Rock will have a more in-depth hands-on with the current Steam Early Access build soon, and for those fortunate enough to be attending PAX East later this week, the game will be playable on the show floor. Happy flying!
