Star Wars Battlefront 2 Details and Release Date

Star Wars Battlefront 2 Release Date

Just about anyone who played the authentically styled Battlefront will admit there wasn’t much to the game other than its visuals. After taking in that feedback, EA seems to be shifting to a release that fans wanted in the first place, especially with a new single player campaign. Straight from EA, we now have some concrete details, plus the release date, of Star Wars Battlefront 2.

Star Wars Battlefront 2‘s most interesting reveal was how it is going to treat its single player campaign, which was undoubtedly one of the most requested features for this sequel. This single player story stars Iden Versio, the leader of Inferno Squad, a special operations group of the Galactic Empire. Taking place through the thirty years between the fall of the Death Star II and the rise of the First Order, fans of the Force Awakens film will have plenty to look forward to. In close partnership with the story teams at Lucasfilm, this tale bridges the gap between the Return of the Jedi and Force Awakens films in an interactive way.

“We wanted to create a campaign that told a story we haven’t seen before in Star Wars. It was important for us to tell a new authentic story, one that gives players a brand-new perspective. By putting players in the boots of an elite member of the Imperial forces, we can show them what the battle was like from the other side.” – Mark Thompson, Game Director at Motive Studios.

While the single player is a huge boon for fans of Star Wars, those who have been enjoying the multiplayer will find some new features as well. Battles can feature up to forty players on maps spanning over the three eras of the film universe: prequel, classic, and new trilogy. Character progression now features all aspects of the battle such as the heroes, villains, troopers, and even the starfighters. Those that enjoyed the dogfighting of the original will be excited to know that air battle has also been expanded to include galactic-scale combat.

Pre-Orders are already available, so let’s break down the different offerings of the game via the press release.

Fans who pre-order Star Wars Battlefront II can join the excitement of the theatrical release of Star Wars™: The Last Jedi™, with content inspired by the upcoming film including exclusive* Kylo Ren and Rey themed looks. The Star Wars Battlefront II: Elite Trooper Deluxe Edition turns your troopers into the ultimate opponents. Every trooper class (Officer, Assault, Heavy, and Specialist) is upgraded, delivering superior firepower, deadly weapon modifications, and epic combat abilities.

  • Instant weapon unlocks and weapon modifications for each trooper class
  • Exclusive Kylo Ren- and Rey-themed looks, inspired by Star Wars™ : The Last Jedi™
  • Epic ability modifiers for Kylo Ren and Rey
  • An epic ability modifier for the Millennium Falcon

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is launching worldwide on November 17, 2017 for PS4, Xbox One, and on PC through EA Origin. Those looking to play early can do so with the Elite Trooper Deluxe Edition and start playing on November 14th. For even earlier access, EA Access and Origin Access will let players start blasting on November 9th.

All in all, this could be a smash hit, provided there are no poorly executed game economies or performance issues. For Battlefront 2 to really kick off, EA has to land this launch with flying colors, otherwise gamers may find themselves disappointed once again. My hopes is that they get it right this time around.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 looks awesome, but its too early to guess at its execution.
