Following up on its other new acquisition announcement earlier this week, Seven Seas Entertainment today announced two more new manga series that fans can look forward to seeing make their debut later this year, Yokai Rental Shop and In This Corner of the World.
The Yokai Rental Shop manga series is by Shin Mashiba, the creator of Nightmare Inspector, a shonen manga that is currently available in North America from Viz Media. The supernatural series follows Hiiragi, a young man who learns that he has a half-brother that he has never met before. Deciding to meet the man he shares a familial bond with, Hiiragi is shocked when he finds that his older brother is covered in bandages, and seems to run a mysterious pet shop that sells rare animals. Even stranger, this pet shop has a deeper secret, customers are able to rent out yokai, to perform supernatural deeds for them, as long as they are willing to forge a contract written in blood.
Seven Seas Entertainment will be releasing Yokai Rental Shop as single volume editions. The first volume is currently slated to be available beginning on Oct. 24, 2017 for $12.99 USA / $14.99 CAN.
In This Corner of the World is a historical drama manga trilogy, from Fumiyo Kouno (Town of Evening Calm, Country of Cherry Blossoms), that also inspired an anime film adaptation that released last year. Set in the 1940s, the story follows Suzu, a young bride, who leaves her home to join her new husband, a member of the Japanese navy, at a base in Kure. As war grips the country, Suzu does all that she can, in order to hold on to her happiness and persevere, even as her beautiful home collapses around her.
Seven Seas will compile the entire trilogy in to a large trim omnibus edition, which is expected to be released in Fall 2017, for $24.99 US / $26.99 CAN.
