If you’re a fan of retro-style platforming and a little violence, rejoice! Illusoria is releasing May 30th on Steam (PC).
Illusoria presents itself as a throwback to the classic platformers of the 90’s.
Inspired by ‘90s classics Heart of Darkness and Flashback. Illusoria invites you to experience a dangerous fantasy world filled with menacing monsters and plenty of secrets.
Both Flashback and Heart of Darkness are beautiful platforming games from the 90’s. Praised for their visuals, difficulty, and violent player deaths. And the visuals for Illusoria look astounding and beautifully animated; the character design seems to bring a bit of charm to the game.
You play as the Keeper of the flame and you must protect the Empress from the evil clutches of the Puppetmaster. Who wants to curse, the land of Illusoria and bring upon world domination.
The game will consist of twelve action packed levels. Where you will need to run, jump, climb and roll. The players will also have the ability to learn magic to aid them on their quest to defeat; the evil Puppetmaster.
Illusoria looks to have many of the key elements to be a classic platformer. The screenshots show off vibrant color, while the gameplay looks simple, challenging, and fun. A few concerns pop into mind. in the past, games will come along and announce: they will be the next classic. Yet, they seem to fall short in one way or another; and forget about what made the games fun in the first place. I don’t see this happening to Illusoria, but I still have my concerns. We will just have to wait and see, if the game, itself lives up the reputation of its forefathers.
