The first person sci fi horror title, Dead Effect 2, has now released as a VR game for Steam Early Access for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. Developer BadFly Interactive has built the original game from the ground up with VR optimized controls, weapon dual wielding, and improved weapon models. The original game, for those unfamiliar, takes place on a spaceship where crew members must survive against a virus that has broken out, starting an onslaught of flesh eating creatures. It was released in 2015 for PC, Playstation 4, and Android, which it was met with acclaim for it’s slick visuals and haunting atmosphere
Players who purchase it on Early Access will get over a dozen weapons to choose from, including flamethrowers, samurai swords, and shotguns. All weapons will be upgradeable as well, with even more features in future updates. In the original game, players were able to choose from three different characters; Gunnar Davis, Jane Frey, and Kay Rayner. Each character had their special set of skills for players to build upon. For instance, Rayner was built for a melee oriented playstyle, while Davis is built for players who just wanna blow stuff up.
In addition to the 10 hours of single player content, the Early Access version will also be released with 4 game modes; Biohazard, Survival, Lone Wolf and Infestation. BadFly has promised future updates to support more co-op content. There is also plans to release new 8 player PvP deathmatches, free-for-all and team based.
Dead Effect 2 VR is available on Steam Early Access for £14.99/ €19.99/ $19.99.
