If there’s one film that I’m most excited for this year, it’s the new adaptation of Stephen King’s IT. While I’m extremely excited, I’m also pretty nervous for this upcoming film as Stephen King’s horror epic is one of the greatest works of literature I’ve ever experienced. For anyone who’s read the novel knows that this story is much more than just about a clown who goes around eating children. At it’s core, it was a coming of age tale, and more specifically about how some kids must grow up faster than others. Warner Bros has now released a full official trailer of the adaptation, giving us a better look at the Bill Skarsgård’s Pennywise.
The new trailer’s opening narration is a great reminder of the story’s main theme of growing up: “When you’re a kid you think the universe revolves around you. You think that you’ll always be protected and cared for. Then, one day, you realize that’s not true.” Quotes like this in the film make me much more optimistic and not let me think this film will not be all jump scares and horror for the sake of horror. That’s not to say the trailer doesn’t look terrifying, because it does! Skarsgård looks genuinely disturbing in some scenes, most notably in the trailer’s ending with Richie’s (Stranger Things’ Finn Wolfhard) encounter. That entire room is filled with a bunch of NOPE!
We do get a little tease of Pennywise speaking. Warner Bros is working brilliantly to market this film, and so far it’s working as the first trailer, and most likely this new trailer, is getting so much buzz. Let’s also not forget that laugh, oh that creepy freaking laugh! I absolutely love it! Stephen King’s IT is set to release on September 8th. Check out the trailer below!
