Peanut butter and chocolate. Ice cream and summer evenings. Motorcycles and twisty roads. All great things that go great together. How about Roguelikes and dating sims? That’s exactly what newly founded indie studio Joy Manufacturing Co. aims to accomplish with their debut title Ambition: A Minuet in Power.
Inspired by events and settings of pre-revolution France, Ambition: A Minuet in Power casts the player as Yvette Decaux, a young woman recently abandoned by her fiance. Far from home and alone on the streets of Paris, she must navigate the internecine factions of Parisian society and seize the life she’s always known she deserved. Of course, it’s not going to be that easy. The seeds of revolution are brewing in the streets, and for Yvette to survive, she’ll need to balance social status, romantic desires, and political necessities.
There’s definitely going to be drama
Gameplay is patterned after dating sims, with Yvette attending parties to charm guests and boost her reputation, both in society as a whole, and within five different factions. Along the way she meets various influential figures that she can try to seduce, gaining access to greater wealth and political power along the way. Wealth and power provide access to better outfits that fit the taste of each faction, and hired servants like tailors, bodyguards, and spies. But while Yvette is climbing the ranks of the moneyed elite, she must keep an eye on current events to ensure that she lands on the winning side of history and keep her head (literally) in the revolution to come.

The procedurally generated world makes for a different play through every time around. The storyline is inspired by history and real events, but depending on Yvette’s choices, history may unfold rather differently than how it’s been written.
