Life is Strange Developer announced that Vampyr will now be released in Spring of 2018. The original release date for Dontnod’s upcoming Gothic action RPG was originally slated for a late 2017 release date. For polish and quality reasons, Dontnod has decided to delay the title to give us the best possible product they can give us.
Dontnod found Oskar Guilbert spoke on the matter and assured us about how this is the right decision. “…we believe that meeting a deadline should never compromise quality…This delay allows us enough time for all the polishing and balancing phase, much needed for a game of Vampyr’s scope, with its ambitious, semi-open world, its complex narrative and deep RPG mechanics that give players a real impact on the world.”
Earlier this year we got a kick-ass cinematic trailer for the game. We really didn’t have any idea what the game truly was, other than it was about vampires and it had a really cool Gothic aesthetic. Back in June I attended E3 and got to see a demo from developer Dontnod on the mechanics that the game is introducing. Once I saw how truly unique the game’s systems were in regards to combat and storytelling, I was immediately intrigued. A Gothic post WW1 vampire narrative is definitely a huge transition from teen adolescent Life Is Strange story (not a knock on the game as I absolutely loved it). While they are completely different in regards to settings and themes, Vampyr looks to be similar in the veins of choice-based gameplay where the decisions made will severely impact the outcome of the game.
In my preview impressions I stated that this game will heavily reliant on it’s unique concept. With the announcement of a delay, I’m even more optimistic as it appears Dontnod is truly taking their time with something that is completely fresh to the action RPG genre. With the satisfying and Bloodborne-esque combat added into the mix, this could be something truly special. For any information on Vampyr visit their official website.
