Xbox has announced that Halo 3, Halo 3 ODST Campaign Edition, Halo 4, and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary (Disc Only) are all headed to Xbox One via Backwards Compatibility today. All of these titles were released on Xbox 360, and should be a welcome addition to anyone looking to complete their Halo Collection.
Each title has their full campaigns and multiplayer modes, and all DLC is accessible for free. As with any Backwards Compatibility title, all you have to do is put the disc in your Xbox One and the game will be downloaded! If you purchased a copy digitally, it will be available on your Ready to Download list, except for Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary in which you will need a physical copy.
While this is great news for Halo fans, it is a pretty interesting move by Microsoft as all of these games are available in Halo: The Master Chief Collection that was released for Xbox One in 2014. While The Master Chief Collection still may boast the best graphics and gives you the ability to play the remastered Halo 2 as well, being able to play these original copies, especially if you already own them, is a great thing.
These additions to the ever growing backwards compatibility list reinforces Microsoft’s commitment to bringing all the best titles of its past to the their current systems. As was announced at E3, original Xbox Games will be headed to the program in the future and there is a pretty good chance that Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2 will be included on that list and will make it so you will be able to play every version of Halo that has come out on an Xbox system.
