Today Ubisoft® revealed new details, and a new trailer, for Far Cry® 5’s online co-op mode, nicknamed “Friends for Hire.” In this mode, players can team up with a friend to free Hope County, Montana, from the doomsday cult infesting the area.
Once the game’s tutorial is complete, online co-op mode will open up. Players will be able to complete the entire campaign in this mode, with all earned experience and loot carrying over from session to session. Players will always see and collect their own loot, with campaign progress residing on the host player’s system.
Even with a buddy, hosts will still be able to recruit an additional “Gun for Hire” or “Fang for Hire” to round out the squad. The addition of a second human (or feline, for owners of really, really smart poly-dactyl cats) provides opportunities for all sorts of cooperative mayhem to pursue while taking down the Project at Eden’s Gate cult.
Far Cry® 5 will be available February 27th, 2018 on PlayStation® 4 Pro, PlayStation®4, the Xbox One, Xbox One X, Xbox One S, and Windows PC. In a first for the franchise, this iteration will be set in America, placing players in the fictional shoes of a newly minted junior deputy in the Hope County Sheriff’s Department. Somehow, the player’s arrival will bump up the timetable for a fanatical local cult, which will plunge the fictional county into a state of war while being cut off from the rest of the country.
Marooner’s Rock has previously covered much of the trailers and news about Far Cry 5, starting with our E3 coverage, and also trailers showing off potential allies in the fight. It’s kind of too bad that 2018 isn’t a leap year. We could use an extra day in our year next February to play this some more!
