Square Enix has announced a remastered version of 2009’s Star Ocean: The Last Hope, to be released worldwide for Sony PlayStation 4 and Windows PCs via Steam. Available only as a digital download, the game will be a full HD remaster and include 4k display support.
Officially, the remaster is saddled with the full title of STAR OCEAN™ – THE LAST HOPE – ™ 4K & Full HD Remaster. We’ll just stick with Star Ocean – The Last Hope Remastered for now. The game was originally released in February 2009 as an Xbox 360 exclusive, with a follow-on version officially titled Star Ocean: The Last Hope Worldwide released a year later for the PS3. Worldwide featured some additional content not found in the Xbox 360 version, along with both English and Japanese voice acting.
The remastered version promises to include full PC keyboard and mouse support, in addition to the expected controller support. Players who purchase the game on Steam before December 12th will receive an exclusive mini-soundtrack download. Players who purchase from the PlayStation®Store before January 8th, 2018 will receive an exclusive PlayStation®4 System Theme and twelve custom PSN avatars featuring the game’s main characters.
Although Star Ocean: The Last Hope is the fourth game in the Star Ocean series, it’s actually a prequel that takes place in the timeline prior to the original Star Ocean trilogy. As such, it’s a solid starting point for players unfamiliar with the series, since there’s no massive history to get caught up on first. (Also, unlike a certain other prequel to a well loved series, there’s no Jar-Jar equivalent here.) The game takes players on an epic journey across the universe in an immense story of survival where humanity must search for a new home.
Star Ocean: The Last Hope is slated for worldwide release on November 28th, 2017. Series fans, or anyone looking for a new RPG to play before Christmas might want to consider taking a few extra days off the weekend after Thanksgiving to enjoy this title.
