Did our list of ten games for Valentine’s Day leave you cold? Still looking for something else to play together for the evening? Then perhaps the just released Hacktag will be the co-op couples game of choice tonight.
Set in 2029 in a parallel world populated by cute, anthropomorphic animals, Hacktag is an isometric, co-op stealth-game. This heist game features an Agent who moves physically through the game world, partnered with a Hacker who moves virtually through the world via network nodes. The two pair up to steal data, avoid guards, make coffee, and have a blast. Hired as mercenaries by competing corporations, the two players work together—with a dash of competition—to carry out espionage missions via online or local co-op. For gamers celebrating Singlehood Awareness Day instead, the game can be played in single-player rather than in co-op.
Developed by Piece of Cake Studios, the Co-founder and CEO Marine Lemaitre Freland had this to say about the game’s release: “We formed Piece of Cake Studios so we could play games together, and Hacktag is designed to be a truly fun co-op experience that’s very intuitive while providing exciting challenges. Whether you’re a game-playing couple, buddies looking for a new couch co-op game, or a solo gamer, we hope Hacktag makes your Valentine’s Day more enjoyable.
Initially released on Steam’s Early Access program in June 2017, Hacktag has been in continuous development since then. Hacktag is French studio Piece of Cake Studios’ first game and won the Audience Choice Award at IndieCade Europe 2016. The game is available on Steam for both PCs and Mac.
