Prepare for battle, because the alarms are sounding once again. KOEI TECMO has released a trio of new trailers for Attack on Titan 2, and things are getting intense. With videos highlighting multiplayer, combat, and custom characters, there’s something in today’s news for everyone.
Players will experience the Omni-Directional Mobility Gear (ODMG) as they fly into battle against devastating titanic foes, and mastering this equipment is key to ensuring victory and survival. A new b-roll showcases a Custom Scout utilizing the ODMG alongside Eren and Mikasa; fighting swarms of Titans to rescue their squad mates from peril. An exciting look at Titan transformations are also teased as Eren turns into his powerful Titan form to defeat anything that crosses his path.
First up, we have some previews of the multiplayer modes. Two player co-op through the story, four player scouting for team scout missions, and eight player 4v4 Annihilation mode where two teams compete to outscore each other while taking down a Titan. In addition to online play, Nintendo Switch owners will be able to take advantage of the Switch’s unique local multiplayer features to play with up to eight Switch tablets functioning as an ad-hoc LAN. There’s also the hint of another mode to be released post-launch, which looks a whole lot like a player controlled Titan for some sort of King of the Hill type mode.
Next up, we have a new combat trailer that shows off the game’s combo system for battling Titans. Not much new here, but some very nice cinematic shots of naked monsters being sashimi’d into giant blood pinatas by valiant scout teams.
Finally, would anyone like a bit of a palette cleanser from all that violence? How about a teaser look at the custom character generator, and how player-made characters interact with the rest of the world? It looks like there are a lot of customization options there.
KOEI TECMO has previously released a much longer battle trailer, and details of the game’s pre-order options. Attack on Titan 2 is scheduled for a March 20th, 2018 release on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation®4, and Xbox One consoles, plus Windows PCs via Steam.
