So it’s safe to say that Gearbox is working on Borderlands 3. It’s a game that has been confirmed for a long time, but is yet to be officially announced. Just recently, a Twitter post from a Gearbox employee states that he is working on the next Borderlands game. For the past two years, I keep speculating that we will finally get a Borderlands 3 announcement at E3, and both years I have sadly been wrong. With each year passing, it’s safe to say we are bound to get an announcement some time in 2018. That being said, a Reddit post from user ShineRise1 has indicated that the anticipated sequel will get an official announcement at E3 2018.
An article on OnlySP found the information that describes what the post entailed. Now, this post is merely a rumor, so it’s validity is tough to determine as the post has already been taken down. The rumor is that Gearbox will make their full announcement of Borderlands 3 while also letting us know that we can expect it to be released later this year in September. I wouldn’t put it past any developers to pull stuff like this anymore, as it’s now a common trope in the industry to keep a game under wraps for as long as possible prior to release. Details in the post state that the game will become a full open world space adventure. This isn’t too surprising though, as this was hinted at during Borderlands 2’s cliffhanger ending where more vaults were shown to exist across the universe.
Adding onto that, the post does show a video that is supposed to be taken from the game’s official trailer. The video was uploaded in Vimeo:

I would love for this leak to be true, but I am not getting my hopes up. Many readers on the Reddit post were very skeptical as well. Still, a 2018 announcement needs to happen. With Borderlands 2 being released almost 6 years ago, I’d say Gearbox is long overdue for an announcement.
