Console gamers, get ready to experience the world of Tera! The gorgeous MMO, still going strong on PCs several years after release, is finally coming to consoles, as we covered previously. Now the official release is drawing significantly closer, with publisher En Masse Entertainment announcing the first Open Beta weekend, coming March 9-11. Accompanying the announcement was a new console focused teaser trailer.
The Open Beta event officially starts at 6am (PST) on March 9th, and runs until 12am (PST) March 12th. Interested players will be able to access the game from the Microsoft Store or PlayStation®Store beginning March 9th. A PlayStation®Plus account is not required for the PS4 version of the game.
“TERA’s development team at Bluehole, Inc. has taken great care to adapt the vast world of TERA and it’s best-in-genre action combat to console platforms,” said Matt Denomme, Sr. Product Manager at En Masse Entertainment. “We feel the results speak for themselves and we’re excited to get the game in the hands of players during our upcoming Open Beta event weekend. Consoles need a solid MMORPG and TERA is prepared to deliver.”
With TERA remaining a cult favorite among a large group of PC gamers, it seems pretty likely to get a solid reception on consoles as well. The viability of PC-centric games has come a long way in the past few years, but the biggest hurdle is always the interface. It will be interesting to see how well TERA handles this transition.
En Masse Entertainment has also been hard at work with their other games, particularly the recently launched Closers, which is getting large, regular content updates and events. On PCs, TERA has also received constant updates since release, allowing console players to jump into a much larger world than what long-time PC players started with. TERA will hit full console release for Xbox One and PlayStation®4 consoles later in the spring.
