Ubisoft Acquires Blue Mammoth Games

Ubisoft announced that they had acquired the video game development studio Blue Mammoth Games.  With this purchase, Ubisoft acquires the rights to Brawlhalla, which is currently Steam’s most played fighting game; this addition to Ubisoft’s library increases its multiplayer portfolio while ensuring the possibility of a sequel to the hit fighting franchise.

Blue Mammoth Games studio, located near Atlanta, Georgia, employees 21 gaming loving and talented staff members including founders Matthew Woomer and Lincoln Hamilton; the two founders are renowned for their comprehensive online multiplayer background and their love of creating a memorable experience. Brawlhalla’s community grew significantly during its second season.  Brawlhalla is currently only available on the PS4, MAC, and PC. Blue Mammoth Games recently partnered with Dreamhack to broadcast the Brawlhalla World Championship for its third season.

“The team at Blue Mammoth Games is expert at developing and running scalable, competitive, multiplayer online games, and they’ll be a great addition to Ubisoft’s network of studios,” said Laurent Detoc, President of Ubisoft NCSA. “With Brawlhalla, we’re getting a hugely popular and highly-profitable title that aligns with our strategy of expanding our audience and providing players with long-lasting, entertaining gaming experiences.”

“We’re looking forward to leveraging Ubisoft’s expertise and resources to continue developing and supporting Brawlhalla for the long-term, and to benefiting from their help in bringing the game to new players,” said Matthew Woomer and Lincoln Hamilton, Blue Mammoth Games founders.

With the acquisition of Blue Mammoth Games, Ubisoft’s financial earnings are likely to increase. Ubisoft and Blue Mammoth Games close on terms on March 1, 2018. At this moment, no terms of the agreement have been officially announced including the purchase amount.

Could we see a sequel to the hit fighting game be announced for the popular franchise at E3 2018? Could Brawlhalla be coming to Nintendo Switch or Xbox One before E3 with this acquisition or will the gaming community have their hopes of the popular franchise releasing on Microsoft and Nintendo consoles be dashed?
