My first thought writing this feature is the fact that there are now 10 episodes of Daddy Gamer out there for people to enjoy! Wizardry V is the game that marks this achievement, and looking back it motivates me to keep going. It’s been a long journey to get this far, but we’ve finally done it, so here’s to the next 10!
I missed out for the most part on the Super Nintendo growing up, so when I picked one up this past year I’ve been having fun playing various titles on it!. Heading over to my local shop, coming home with a game, popping it in and being immediately launched to funville, is an experience not often had these days. Games either need to be downloaded or at the very least updated upon day 1. The downside to this wonderful pop in and play era is of course, corded controllers. Sitting on the floor to play is something I don’t do often, but it does take me back! It may have been with different controllers, but the nostalgia is the same.
For this round, Lil’ Gamer and I sit down, on the floor a cords distance away from the tv, to play Wizardry V. Originally released on PC and then later ported over to the Super Nintendo offered players the opportunity to create their own party of heroes and experience adventure! It became pretty clear early on that a manual would be necessary as the game itself offered no story, or explanation of game mechanics. Luckily I found a manual for Wizardry V on the website vimm.net in their “Manual Project”. It provided everything, story, class requirements, spell descriptions, and anything else needed to progress through the game.
This episode was the first time Lil’ Gamer was able to receive direction and lines and act them out! Working with her on that level was a lot of fun and a sign that the show is growing as she does. I can’t wait for future episodes where she’ll be more involved with the creative process and start to formulate her own opinions on the games we play! For now though, enjoy the latest episode of Daddy Gamer where we delve into the labyrinth, literally and figuratively, that is the game Wizardry V!
