While there isn’t much to go on, EA has just announced that we will be learning more about the newest iteration in the long running Battlefield series on May 23rd, 2018. The teaser website, which you can see here, is nothing but a blue background with the aforementioned date, the words #battlefield, and the ability to share to Twitter and/or Facebook. When you click to share, you are prompted to share the following message; “On May 23, Battlefield will never be the same”. Most interesting of all this, besides the obvious upcoming announcement, is how this website was discovered.
In March of 2017, EA and DICE released a map for Battlefield 1 called Fort de Vaux. In said map, there is a strange and mysterious door that has the word “Isolement” (Meaning Isolation in French) over it that, if you listen closely, you can hear screams or wailing or something all together spooky. For over a year, players of Battlefield 1 have searched and discussed and tried to open it, but to no avail. With the game’s latest patch, however, that all changed.
There are a number of signs all throughout the map that have hidden buttons behind them, and each button has a letter that if pushed together in the right order spell out “Isolement”. Once these buttons are pressed, the door opens. So, what was inside the room, you ask? Nothing really. No ghosts or zombies and prisoners, but an empty room. Although, if you listen to the ceiling pipes, they drip out in such a way that those familiar with Morse Code have figured out that it spells out the following message; ea.com/neverbethesame.
With the mystery finally solved, or mostly solved, we now have the answer and a clue as to when we will be learning more about the next Battlefield. What about this announcement will make it “Never be the same”. Will EA finally announce that Battle Royale is coming to the franchise? Will there be some horror element like Call of Duty: Zombies headed to Battlefield? Will it simply be the announcement of Battlefield V? At the moment, no one knows, but that will all change on May 23rd, 2018.
