Ubisoft has now given a release date for its first Far Cry 5 DLC, which is titled Hours of Darkness. Far Cry 5 definitely had one of the most memorable trailers for it’s season pass, which showed three new adventures which ranged from Vietnam to Mars. Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon was an absolute hit after it’s release, and it seems Ubisoft wants to continue that trend of DLC that goes in way over the top, which is definitely appropriate for a Far Cry game. Hours of Darkness is set to release on June 5.
Hours of Darkness will drop players into a war-torn Vietnam, where they will get the opportunity to go back in time and play as Wendell “Red” Redler. Redler was a side character in the main game who gave the side quest “What They Carried.” The DLC has Redler tasked with rescuing his imprisoned squad mates by wreaking havoc on the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese army. Having Far Cry’s gameplay in a Vietnam setting should be a blast as I’m sure it’s guerrilla-style warfare will fit in perfectly. Hours of Darkness will also add new Vietnam-themed assets for players to create in Far Cry Arcade.
Additionally, Hours of Darkness will introduce two new game modes, Survivor Mode and Action Movie Mode. Survivor Mode seems to be just as it sounds, a horde style game mode with limited ammo. Then there is Action Movie Mode, which we’re not too sure exactly what this entails, but Ubisoft states it will include a generous loadout that delivers over-the-top action. If we can get some sort of movie mode in the veins of Grand Theft Auto V’s Director Mode, then I will be very pleased. Far Cry could greatly benefit from a mode like this considering the game wants players to create their own moments.
The next two DLC adventures, Lost on Mars and Dead Living Zombies, will be released this upcoming July and August. Hours of Darkness can be purchased as a standalone DLC for $11.99 USD or as part of the Far Cry 5 Season Pass for $29.99 and Gold Edition for $89.99.
