Kratos’ newest adventure is off to an incredible start as the PlayStation Blog has just announced that God of War (PS4) has become the fastest-selling PS4 exclusive in its first three days. From April 20th-April 22nd, God of War sold over 3.1 million units globally. This shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise as the title is being heralded across the internet for taking this franchise in a new and bold direction. God of War is currently sitting at a 94 on Metacritic as of this writing, making it the highest rated game of 2018, tied only with Celeste for Xbox One.
Shannon Studstill, Studio Head as God of War’s Santa Monica Studio, also shared a personal message in celebration of this achievement;
I would like to personally thank the millions of fans around the world who decided to embark on Kratos’ latest adventure with us. Your support is truly inspiring, and it’s a reason why we push ourselves every day to go beyond the boundaries of play. I’d also like to thank our Creative Director, Cory Barlog, and Director of Product Development, Yumi Yang and our entire amazing team at Santa Monica Studio. The belief in the game’s vision and the passion for storytelling across the team is undeniable. We look forward to hearing more about how fans are creating new memories of their favorite God of War gameplay moments that will be remembered for a long time.
This is great news for fans of the franchise, as the future of this series looks incredibly bright. It will be very interesting to see how the title continues to do throughout the year and to see if it can surpass Horizon Zero Dawn’s 7.6 million copies sold in 2017.
