Headsnatchers PAX East Hands-On Preview

Headsnatchers Key Art Cover

Combining the likes of the Mii Maker on the Wii and arcade games everywhere, the game Headsnatchers by Iceberg Interactive and Iguanabee, provides a unique take on the classic mini arcade style. During my time at PAX East, I had the delightful experience of getting to try this game first hand and also chat with some of the developers. When I was first introduced to this game, after struggling with my map to locate it against the back wall of PAX, I thought it was going to be quite childish. Perhaps, I thought, this game is geared towards a younger audience; which would explain the bright flashes of color I saw before me. However, rather than being childish it is childlike, proving to be an utterly enjoyable adventure.

Marketed as a multiplayer party game, Headsnatchers is easy to pick up, yet challenging to master. If I were Sherlock Holmes I would say that there are several points of interest to keep in mind when considering this game. However, Sherlock Holmes, I am not.  Regardless of that fact, there are quite a few key features to note.

If you have ever had a vaguely murderous desire then this game is for you. The goal of the game is to snatch your opponents head. This may sound slightly viscous, but the cutesy over-sized nature of the heads makes it impossible to resist this murderous impulse. Speaking of the heads, there are 100 unique heads that are available for play within the game. Or, if you are feeling particularly ambitious, you can custom create your own!

On top of that, there are four different game modes, plus over 25 unique levels. Each of these levels have their own set of rules and weapons, just to keep it spicy. My personal favorite is the level in which you are able to summon Cthulhu. I mean, who doesn’t like summoning giant tentacle things right? Additionally, this game can host up to four players. Or if you are antisocial like I am, there is a zombie mode that allows you to play by yourself.

This zany game is set to come out on both PC and PlayStation 4 and is definitely something you will want to be on the lookout for. To keep up with all the potential juicy news bit check out the official website, their Facebook, or Twitter.
