This title will support local wireless and online multiplayer with up to three hunters, and you are able to transfer your save data from the original 3DS version to Ultimate. In addition, there will be a new Elder Dragon, new areas, and the return of fan-favorite monsters like Zinogre and Naragacuga. Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate is the definitive version of Monster Hunter Generations that released on the Nintendo 3DS in North America on July 15th, 2016. This title in the long-running Monster Hunter series introduced new gameplay mechanics including Hunting Styles and Hunter Arts that allows players to customize and vary up their playstyles. These new Hunting Styles include the Guild Style, which is the most traditional, and allows you to equip two Hunting Arts (Special Skills). If you wish for something a bit more dramatic and flashy, you can choose the Aerial Style that adds a little jump when you dodge, allowing for greater movement abilities and mounting monsters, but you only get to equip one Hunter Art.
In Japan, Monster Hunter Generations was released as Monster Hunter X in May 2015. On March 18th, 2017, Japan received their version of Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate as Monster Hunter XX on the Nintendo 3DS and just a few months later, on August 25th, 2017, Monster Hunter XX was ported to the Nintendo Switch, once again, in Japan only.
