Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment revealed a brand new cinematic trailer for the upcoming Shadow of War story expansion, Desolation of Mordor. The trailer is actually the expansion’s opening cutscene, which seems to put the focus on Baranor, the Captain of Minas Ithil. Baranor was a prominent and fan favorite character in the original game, so it’s going to be nice to see a new tale from his perspective.
In Desolation of Mordor, Baranor reunites with his long long brother, Serka, who is now a commander. In typical Shadow of War fashion, there is a looming orc threat that they must take care of. The expansion takes place in the Marauder fortress of Shindrâm. With a brand new fortress to take over, players can once again get all stabby stabby in Desolation of Mordor.
One interesting aspect about this upcoming expansion is the character of Baranor himself. In the original game and it’s first expansion, Blade of Galadriel, we had all the wraith and ring powers at our disposal to create Slave Simulator 2017. With Desolation of Mordor, we are now playing as a character with none of these abilities (as far as we know). It will be interesting to see what Monolith Productions does with a campaign where there are little to no mystical abilities, instead, players will need to rely on sheer might. I’m not entirely sure how much of the Nemesis System will be change, but I’m excited to see where it takes us. The expansion also promises players that we will reunite with Torvin, the legendary Dwarven Hunter from the original Shadow of Mordor.
The good news is that we won’t need to wait much longer. Desolation of Mordor releases next week on Tuesday, May 8. For those who own the Expansion Pass, this will automatically download to their game. If not, the expansion will cost $14.99.
